Making arrangements....

I'm about to tire you with some more Shetland stuff, so here's your chance to get away in time ;)

I've bought the plane tickets, booked a room for 5 nights at a B&B in the centre of Lerwick, I've contacted a car rental agency, and I've told Connie from Lerwick when I expect to come visit her at the LYS. I have even tried to make a small list of the things to see and places to visit while I'm there. Moe has agreed to lent me his camera and I have located my rain jacket. I sort of know where my pasport is and sooner rather than later I'll do a quick search for the GBPs we have lying around in the house (a couple of days ago I found a tenner in the car - weird). This should mean that I'm as ready as you can expect me to be, right? :)
Obviously I'll bring my needles (and a little yarn too) and my running gear (still training for the Hamburg Marathon).
It's been around ten years since I went abroad on my very own. It will be strange somehow, but also nice. I need this - you know, to recharge.

Have I forgotten something? Are there places I simply have to visit? Are there knitting related events I cannot miss? Let me know :)

On the needles

I have secrets :) I did swatch for them!

The undyed thingy will soon be finished. The light blue - well, there's a long way to go yet.

destashing not so pretty yarn

In my quest to destash 5 kg of yarn I sometimes come across yarn that doesn't really belong in my stash. For example this self-striping Lana Grossa sock yarn. I never did like it; it's super nice wool - it just doesn't look nice :/ I shouldn't complain though. This particular yarn was given to me in order for me to make socks for poor kids (with cold feet) in Nepal. I did that (though almost too late and not nearly as many as I'd liked to, but that's another story).

This pair of socks is for my sister-in-law, Kirsten. She had borrowed a pair of her mother's homeknit (by an aunt) socks and now she wants a pair for herself. I care about my sister-in-law and only wishes her the best in life - the reason why she is about to receive this not so pretty pair of socks is that she asked me to make them striped. She even said that she didn't care about colours or tedious matters like that. And the Lana Grossa sock yarn was actually the best yarn in my stash. I showed her the first sock, she tried it on and loved it. That must be good enough :)

Moss Stitch Scarf

At work 'room temperature' means something entirely different than it does at home (and anywhere else for that matter). It's freezing cold, and thus I decided to make a woolen scarf for myself. I finished it a couple of weeks ago and it's been clinging to me ever since. It nice and soft and warm :) I know I said that I would make it two different kinds of grey. It didn't turn out that way. Here's why: first of all, I thought this project would eat up a lot more yarn than it actually did, which meant that I had enough of the darker grey I started out with. Second, I changed my mind with regard to the pattern. To begin with I wanted to do a garter stitch mid section, which would be a good place to change colours. I liked the moss stitch pattern too much to stray form that path. So there you go.

Shetland - here I come

You wouldn't believe it if I told exactly how difficult it is to get a ticket from Denmark to Shetland - so I won't! But trust me, it was difficult alright!! I got Moe to help me, we wrote almost all flights down (yes, all flights in the world!) and search the entire Internet. And finally, I got my tickets at a reasonable price even.
I'll be leaving on April 5 and return the following Saturday - April 12 or something.
Now I need to find a place to stay. Judging from the amount of time spent looking for plane tickets, my guess is that there won't be any other people anywhere near Shetland so I'm not in a hurry :)
But if you do know the perfect place to stay near Lerwick, do tell :)

6 days of knitting... I can't wait to go!!! :D

Work

I'm the busiest bee ever these days. In fact it's too much! I'm stressed out but I'll have to hang in there for another month. There's just nothing I can do about it so I might as well get the best out of the situation. And there are good things about it :)
For example! Earlier today I was notified that tomorrow is the day we've all been waiting for - at least if you work here. Or if you have invested a ton of money in the project. Anyway, tomorrow it is 'test-launch of the first prototype wave plane-day'. That is in itself very exiting and I'm really looking forward to seeing this huge lump of metal plunge to the sea.

In the wake of this test-launch there's a bonus. A knitting bonus. The event will take place around 50 km away from my house, and I'll be driven there, which means.... yes, you guessed it.... I'll be knitting to and fro. We are talking around 90 minutes of knitting with pay here! :)

See! 2009 is already looking bright! :)

WTF?!

So I called bladkiosken.dk to ask about my Vogue Knitting magazines.
I suspected they would tell me that a) my magazine was lost in the mail, or b) it's on its way. However, that's not exactly how it went.
The guy from bladkiosken.dk tells me that they have had a lot of problems with Vogue Knitting; about 50% of the magazines never reached the end-user. And because it had been such a hassle for such a long time, they didn't even sell those magazines anymore. Great! :(
Originally Vogue Knitting was sent directly to me from the UK. The weirdest thing is that some 'clever' person in the UK decided that 'no, I won't send the actual Vogue Knitting, I'll give her this 'Knit 1' instead - she obviously likes knitting a lot, so I guess she won't mind the least freakin' bit'.... or something.
I should probably mention something good by now....
Okay, the good thing here is that they never charged me for these random magazines.
Back to the bad stuff: I still want my Vogue Knitting!!!
